Hunan for education

Hunan also boasts a long history in education and is one of the places where Chinese ancient academy originated.

From Song Dynasty (960 to 1279), Hunan hosted two of the four biggest and most famous national academies in China, Yuelu Academy in Changsha and ShiGu Academy in HengYang.

History was written here. One of the stories includes Zhu Xi, who is regarded as the most influential rationalist Neo-Confucian in the history of China and one of China’s most influential philosophers, once came to YueLu Academy to meet its lead scholar Zhang Shi (who is later canonized and admitted into the Confucian Temple after his death – the top Confucian recognition in thehistory of China). They spent 3 days debating while witnessed by thousands of famous scholars and students in the academy. Eventually neither of them could convince each other and then they both stayed at the academy to lecture.

Till now in the 21st century, Hunan has always ranks as a leading education center in China. From Hunan government giving special priority on education development and investment to the Hunan students known for its diligence in learning and development, Hunan has been known for producing top talents.

Hunan for Fun

Hunan has been known for its culture for creativity, unique Cuisine and spectacular tourist spots as well.

From ancient Chinese art, calligraphy, painting to modern creative media, Hunan has never fallen behind the fashion. Today, Hunan Satellite TV is the country’s top broadcaster in terms of audience ratings and media coverage over 1.2 billion population. Cartoon production in Hunan has been developing quickly with home-produced cartoons accounted for 70 percent of the domestic market and generated over 10 billion RMB.

Hunan Cuisine is one of the Eight Great Traditions of Chinese cuisines and is well known for its spicy flavor, fresh aroma and deep color. It contains more than 4,000 dishes, including one of the most famous Chinese dishes in the world – “General Tso’s Chicken”. Even though it is always easy tofind Hunan cuisine restaurants anywhere in the world, locals would tell you that you have not really tried it until you come to Hunan and stay for at least 3 – 6 months.

Tourism is one of the key industries in Hunan as well. It spread itself along the middle stretch of the Yangtze River and has splendid landscapes and fecund scenery. Two internationally recognized World Heritage Sites and Five national 5A (top rating) Tourist Spots found their homes in Hunan.

Some examples includes: WuLingYuan, recognized by Unesco in 1990 as a World Heritage Site, is is full of waterfalls, limestone caves (including Asia’s largest chamber) and rivers suitable for rafting trips; and FengHuang Ancient town, an exceptionally well-preserved ancient town that was the center of the unsuccessful Miao Rebellion (1854–73), which created a Miao diaspora in Southeast Asia during the last two centuries. The city is revered in Miao traditions and funeral rites and is the location of the Southern China Great Wall, a fortification built by the Ming dynasty to protect the local Han Chinese from Miao attacks.
